Alpine Passes

Rajesh, RamP and I visited 3 major and 2 minor alpine passes on 25-26 June 2005. The dramatic scenery and excellent driving by Rajesh resulted in one of my best road trips. We first visited Col de la Forclaz (a pass between Martigny and Chamonix) and took a short stroll to see the Trient glacier. Next we drove to the fjord-like Dixence dam near Sion, one of the largest in Europe. To be within the striking distance of the main alpine passes, we stayed at the youth hostel in Fiesch.

We did the classic alpine pass tour on the next day, visiting the Grimsel pass between Valais and Bern, the Furka pass between Valais and Uri, and the Susten pass between Uri and Bern. The Furka pass also gives access to the source of river Rhone - the giant Rhone glacier. We returned to Lausanne via Interlaken, Gstaad and Col du Pillion, the later being a pass between Bern and Vaud. (Its a long album with 70 pics.)
